Braves Win On Walkoff Grand Slam

This was awesome! Braves score 7 in the 9th to win the game. They win on a walkoff grand slam by Brooks Conrad, a guy I have never heard of. You have to watch this video till the end to see how he runs the bases!

My Super Bowl Blog - 3rd Quarter

*THE GREATEST START TO A 2nd HALF EVER! WOW! That scrum took two minutes to sort out. An onside kick and it goes to the Saints! Holy Crap. Now, if they don't make this count that onside kick will get lost in Super Bowl lore.....

*Saints 1st possession of 2nd half - And they DID make it count. Brees picks apart the Colts defense, then a fantastic screen pass. Pierre Thomas scores - didn't he do that to New England? Saints 13-10

*Colts 1st possession of 2nd half - Is that Peyton Manning? Haven't seen him in two hours. And now we know why the Saints kicked it onsides, it's because their defense can't tackle. Does Peyton Manning make throws that seem fake? On the run, he rolls out and throws a 30 yard floater to Dallas Clark. That was like a video game pass. Sieve Sieve Sieve I chant to the Saints defenders. They can't tackle at all. Addai with a TD. How come the Colts have two running backs better than anybody on the Patriots? Colts 17-13

*Saints 2nd possession - Moving the ball well, until they throw underneath routes that nearly lose yards. Hartley true from 47...he is solid. Colts 17-16
*Colts 2nd possession - Randle 'I'm Not' Gay! Gets a tackle - yes he did get burned on the play, but he picked up a tackle nonetheless. Where did Austin Collie come from? The first time I heard his name was last week. Now he is like an All-Pro. End of 3rd, Colts 17-16

Super Bowl Injuries

Colts DE Dwight Freeney is still uncertain whether he will play in the Super Bowl due to a Grade III ankle sprain. I don't see how Freeney doesn't give it a go on Sunday. Freeney has said, "It still definitely is sore but it's making progress...The swelling's down and it's beginning to look like an ankle again." The DE led Indy with 13.5 sacks, and they certainly need his presence. I am sure he will look at recent history and see that Terell Owens played and made an impact with an unhealed broken leg. He will play, and he will be a spark for the Colts even if he is only at 50%.

Staying in injury mode, I was trying to find some signifcant injuries that kept good players off of the field during the Super Bowl. Here's a good article detailing ten injuries that occurred during the Super Bowl. The Patriots Lin Dawson was in there for rupturing his patellar tendon on the first play of the game in Super Bowl XX. I also found out that Shannon Sharpe and Johnny Unitas were pansies as well.

Update: 2 hours after I put this out, ESPN tries to one up me. Check out their article here. I have to say that ESPN has always been scared of the Sports Juke, and now they are emulating our articles.

Tiger Is No Jack

Tiger Woods is no Jack Nicklaus, this according to Tom Watson. Watson spoke out today against Tiger Woods, saying he needs to clean up his act and show humility to the public. Watson also said, "I feel that he has not carried the same stature that other great players that have come along like Jack [Nicklaus], Arnold [Palmer], Byron Nelson, the Hogans, in the sense that there was language and club throwing on the golf course...You can grant that of a young person that has not been out here for a while. But I think he needs to clean up his act and show the respect for the game that other people before him have shown."

Snap! Tom Watson put Tiger in his place, and Watson has the right to do this. Watson is one of the more elite players to ever swing a club, and still has some serious game. If there is one player who should speak out on tour right now, it probably is Watson. Don't let John Daly tell you his feelings. Don't listen to Jesper Parnevik. He has other motives, as he is the one who introduced Tiger to Elin.

Tom Watson should be praised for what he said. He showed some serious balls speaking out against Tiger, and I hope people see this as a good thing. I hope Tiger clicks thru ESPN online tomorrow, reads Watson's comments, and decides that maybe he should show some humility. Nice work Tom.

Winter Olympics Ten Days Away

The countdown is on for the start of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The slate of activities begins on February 12th. For some reason a ski jumping qualifying event is being held at 10am, and the opening ceremonies are being held at 6pm to kick off the action. Nothing like starting off the games with ski jumpers that WON'T qualify for the olympics!

Here are a few highlighted events and times for week 1 that I am looking forward to. Will post separately about week 2 events next week.

2/15 - Pairs Figure Skating Medal Event. Back off I am not a freak for liking this. I wonder if Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy will place in this event? Just kidding, this sport is pretty awesome, and the possibility of huge accidents is great. I want to see a pair that is skating a perfect routine to go up to their last lift, and then fall on their asses. Get the judges all in a panic. This team was on the path to the Gold, and now they have to rethink the scoring. Classic awesomeness.

2/16 - Men's Round Robin: Curling, The United States versus Germany. Will the US be able to keep the swagger they gained with a bronze medal finish in the 2006 Winter Olympics? This should be a W for the States, as Germany finished 3rd to last in 2006 with just a 3-6 record. But, don't forget that the Germans had 12 stolen ends in 2006.

2/16 - Men's Hockey, The United States versus Switzerland. The US didn't place in 2006, they look to avenge that issue this year. They finished in the 8th position in 2006. In game 1 they are up against a team that finished 6th, the Swiss. This is a rivalry to end all rivalries. The Americans sport a team with our good friend Phil Kessel, Chris Drury, Patrick Kane, and our very own Tim Thomas, among others... For Switzerland, the household names of Andres Ambhul, Goran Bezina!, Thibaut Monnet lead the charge. Certainly this will be a big challenge for the States.

2/20 - Short Track Men's 1000m Medal Event. Totally awesome if you have never seen this. Here's a description of the event: "Short track speed skating takes place on a 111.12-metre oval track within a hockey rink. Tight corners make it difficult for skaters to maintain control. A boardless padding system is now used replacing the stand-alone board system. This ensure an increased safety for the athletes.Short track speed skaters compete against each other, rather than the clock. The competition consists of a series of heats with four or six athletes. The first two athletes in each heat advance to the next round until only four skaters remain for the final."

This event is sick, and the crashes are awesome. I am sure we will see some crazy stuff go down in this event!

Cincy Bengals Don't Learn

The Cincinnati Bengals are a disaster. Chris Henry lost his life during the season, for a dumb incident in which he jumped onto the bed of his fiance's pickup truck. He fell out, and died. A tragic event, but one that certainly could have been avoided.

Today, it is being reported that Ray Maualuga was arrested for drunken driving. The AP reports, "The rookie linebacker was arrested four days ago after police said he hit a parking meter and two parked cars in northern Kentucky. He was charged with drunken and careless driving, and a court hearing was scheduled for Feb. 25."

This is truly a sad moment, as the Bengals have already gone through so much. This stupid act by Maualuga could have cost him his life - a selfish act which is certainly unfair to the team, his teammates, the fans and his family. It shows that he believes he is above the law, and it demonstrates that he doesn't care about his health. I truly feel bad for Ray Maualuga and the Bengals.

Things That Suck In Boston Right Now

Vince Wilfork- Shut your mouth, and accept the fact that you are getting hit with the franchise tag.

Asante Samuel - Shut your mouth, and accept the fact that you got the franchise tag, and then bolted town for $$$. Also, I think you owe us money for the stress you caused us by not picking off Manning.

The Bruins - I was just kidding last week when I said the Bruins were tanking on purpose. But now, after watching them skate miserably against Columbus, Carolina and Buffalo, I am not so sure.

Dennis Wideman - Man, he is pathetic. And a mental case as well. It is great when players absolutely collapse, and then wear their expression on the their face. You can tell he is just a beaten man.

Hawks/Celtics - Does this matchup frustrate everyone? I just hate the fans in Atlanta. Quiet down, I am trying to watch the game. The Hawks swept the season series from the Celtics, and now they will feel confident going into a playoff series against Boston. Not good.

Glen Davis - Shirtless fighting, telling fans to suck his dick, and now saying he should change his name to uno-uno. Come on Big Baby, stop being a Big Baby.

Mike Lowell - He is earning a lot of money to be a PT DH. You have to feel bad for Mikey Lowell. Nobody wants him, even though he hit the ball pretty well when he was on the field last year. Unfortunately, he can't run. In my mind, however, I still think he might be a better option than Adrian Beltre.

BC Eagles Mens Hoops - The most up-and-down annoying team in Boston. Beat Clemson, lose a heartbreaker to Virgina Tech. Beat Miami in Florida, get trounced by 20 against Duke in Durham.

Too many things suck right now in Boston. A Colts loss to the Saints will certainly be a step in turning things around.

Awesome!

Photo stolen from Boston.com. This looks so cool. Winter Classic scheduled for January 1st. Apparently tickets are going for $275 on stubhub. If anybody wants to donate a pair to the Sports Juke, it would be appreciated.

We are excited...

.....about the game!

This Phillies fan is disappointed...and cold.

Whatever happens in the postseason, we always have hot women...some of them even seem to like sports. And by the way, if you want to send us some pictures of hot baseball chicks, feel free to. sportsjuke@gmail.com

Man From The Chair Missing!

Sports Juke blogger Man From the Chair is missing! We haven't seen him post anything in a while now. He appears in the comment section here and there but has yet to make a lasting impact on the front page.
Here is a description if you see him: He is anywhere between 4 and 5 feet, black hair, usually has his hand on his head, he is a fan of McGyver and drives a van. If you find him please report him to the Sports Juke immediately! If he appears confused just talk to him in a gentle voice and encourage him to post something on the front page. He may try to exert his sarcasm on you, but dont worry, this means he is back to his old self!
In the meantime I will be putting up flyers on every telephone pole in Eastern, Ma. Please keep a lookout for our friend on wheels, we miss him.
