It's The Most Boring Ass Time Of The Year!!!!

What's the point of life right now? As a Boston sports fan there is nothing good about right now. The Red Sox are 7 games out of the East, and 4 out of the Wild Card. 4 games isn't that much, but it doesn't get me excited. It also doesn't get me excited that the Sox are still without Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez, Jacoby Ellsbury, and etc...It doesn't make me happy that the Sox are riddled with flaws. Bad bullpen, bad defense, and a bad back of the rotation.

On the other side of sports, why should I be interested? The Logan Mankins contract dispute? The Tom Brady contract extension? The Nate Robinson signing? The potential Marc Savard trade? There are no other sports in action right now, and the news is boring at best. No team has made a big offseason splash! The biggest story outside of the stream of Red Sox players in hospital beds is the Tyler Seguin draft pick. And I should get really pumped about that why? The B's choked worse than any hockey team in history, and I am going to get jacked over a new teenager?

It's summer time, the sports scene is dry and I worked on my birthday. Yep, it's my birthday, my wife is working all night, I am home alone and there are no good sports to watch. It's a pretty sad time in Boston.

A Bad Weekend

It was the big moving weekend, and a couple of troublesome things occurred during that stretch. Here's how it looked for me this weekend:

#1) Is it weird that somebody got shot and killed less than one mile from my apartment last night? That sucks. Welcome to Providence. I was driving around at 11:30, and all of a sudden four squad cars zip past me going 80MPH on a side street. Come to find out this morning, it was because of a shooting! Although it was a drug dealer who was killed, I feel it is still a bad omen that people are murdering others within 5,000 feet of my property.

#2) I have been so busy with the move, I didn't realize my fantasy baseball starting 1B, Kendry Morales, is out for most of the season with a broken leg. He suffered the injury after hitting a walkoff grand slam. He jumped up when he got to home plate, and when he came down, CRACK! God damn it all, the next guy on my depth chart is Derek Lee, who is checking in at a robust .237. That injury is almost as bad as Bill Gramatica, who tore his ACL after celebrating only a 42 yard field goal...in the 1st QUARTER! Here's a good article on dumb sports injuries.

#3) My next door neighbor is an 80 year old named Gus. Seems cool, right? Great name, maybe a crazy old cook who is good for a laugh. Actually, no. What a bum this guy is. I went right over to him as I was unpacking my 18 foot Penske truck. Here's how the conversation went:

Mike - "Hi, nice to meet you. I am Mike."
Gus - "Can you move your truck?"
Mike - "Sure, I will get it out of your way. It's never fun to move, huh?"
Gus - "Just move the truck off this street"

Awesome start with that guy. He looks at me like I am Dennis the Menace.

#4) We lost our cat as we were moving in. We found her hours later, on the edge of the roof of the house. How'd she get there? You tell me. Somehow, she managed to scamper back down towards us, but if she was ever suicidal, that was her chance.

Rajon Being Rajon

I know we already had one good length post about Rajon Rondo, but here's a better video of his game 3 performance agsint Orlando. Just about every play he makes is the most unreal play I have ever seen. I don't know how he scores on the floater, I don't know how he dribbles so controlled on the baseline with his left hand, and I REALLY don't know how he dives underneath somebody's legs and comes up with the basketball. It's great to watch all of his plays from game 3 in succession, because you realize how much he actually does out on the court. This is a 5 minute reel from just one game! Great stuff.

Best Postgame Interviews

Paul Pierce had a classic postgame interview last night. Here are some other classic interviews that you may have forgotten about!

Shaq flips out:

Steve Francis tell is as it is. I love how Bill Walton reprimands him after. Hilarious.

This one was at the half, but Joe Kines gets the nod in my book. I was on the floor laughing at this one.

Floyd Mayweather doesn't like Larry. I wouldn't mess with Floyd.

And a few classics I know you haven't forgotten about!

Terrell Owens on Tony Romo

Dennis Green always has a place in my heart. His answer started off so softly and nicely. Then, he loses it. All in about 10 seconds.

The Jim Mora presser is too easy to rank. But here it is.

We Thought Corey Dillon Was Bad

Well this guy is worse than Corey Dillon. Lawrence Taylor, the Hall of Fame Giants linebacker, was charged arrested for allegedly raping a 15 year old girl. Taylor is 51. What the hell is going on with these players? Rape, spousal abuse, falling off trucks after domestic spats, spitting in the face of strippers, shooting yourself in the leg, killing dogs, and surely more to come. These guys are out of control.

What's the worst sport of them all when it comes to horrible crimes and terrible people? Does football run away with it? It all starts with OJ killing people and holding people at gunpoint, and then it filters down to guys like Dillon and Taylor. I just don't understand why these athletes are so angry? LT had everything. Dillon was a pro bowl and super bowl winning back. Why does he fly off the handle every other week?

I think the ugliness in sports is ruled by football, then basketball, hockey and baseball respectively. I put baseball last because all they are known for is the steroid scandal and some betting issues. Hockey has seen coaches involved in ridiculous crime rings, players hiring out others to kill their spouses, and on-ice near murder incidents... Basketball is right behind football, I believe. Just read the papers anytime there is an all-star weekend. More than likely 5 players will be out on the town, hanging out with gangs, and toting guns. Some of these guys are really bad guys. Does anyone really think Tony Allen is a good seed?

No Faith In The Celtics

I should have faith in the Celts, right? Well, I don´t. Boston put themselves in a terrible position for the NBA playoffs, set to take on Dwyane Wade and the surging Miami Heat in the 1st round. A 4 vs 5 matchup, with the brunt of the games coming at the Garden. Boston is just 27-27 since Christmas, and have put themselves in a position to get f´d in either the 1st or 2nd round. Most think it will be the 2nd, but this 1st rounder could be as tough as last year´s matchup against the Bulls.

What makes this matchup an absolute bitch? One man, Dwyane Wade. DWade has blown up against the Celts several times this year, once for 44 points. Not a good sign for a team that prides themselves on defense. Another interesting tidbit comes from ESPN´s Chris Forsberg ...The Heat are 29-1 when coming out of the break with the lead, and the Celtics are one of the worst teams to hold a lead after the break.... To me, this means that these games will come down to the wire every single night. That being said, the ball will be in Dwyane Wade´s hands, and on the flip side, Paul Pierce´s hands. Both have NBA titles and MVPs under their belts. Who do you trust?
The whole analysis of this series is probably dumb however, as the winner will have to go to Cleveland. In a game where home court advantage is everything, Boston will be playing in the toughest house in the league. Playing against a guy that wanted to kill after his playoff loss last year. A guy that wants revenge on all bloggers who trashed him after his final series last year. (Whoops, we might be partly to blame when he goes off on the Celtics in the 2nd round!)

Boston won their championship with the Big 3 because of home court advantage. They also had a better team in place, and a hungrier one at that. This year, the team doesn´t have these items in their favor.
Expect the Celtics to play hard in these NBA playoffs, just don´t be shocked at an early exit.

Joslyn James Audio From 98.5 The Sports Hub

Joslyn James made her way around the sports radio dial in Boston yesterday. I have listened to both interviews, one on Dennis and Callahan and the other on Toucher and Rich, and I have to say that the interview on The Sports Hub was awesome. I listened to it live yesterday, and then had to listen to the podcast again today. Do yourself a favor, and listen to the audio featuring Joslyn James on with Toucher and Rich. Great stuff. She touches upon some sex acts that Tiger Woods wanted from her, and she even says that Tiger played the submissive role from time-to-time. Toucher and Rich both asked a couple of times if a guy was ever involved, I guess they want this story to get WAY out of control. My personal opionion: if there is a 2nd guy involved, I don't want to know. If there are 3 chicks involved at one time, then please inform me!

Daisuke Wins At Men's Figure Skating?

That's right. Daisuke Takahasi has won the men's short program at the world figure skating championships in Turin. Apparently the crowd loved it, and several fans were waving Japanese flags around. Unlike our Daisuke, it is being reported that Takahashi finished the sporting event without injury. Similar to our Daisuke, Takahashi always does well in world contests, but struggles with intra-country athletics.

$23 Million Per Year For A Catcher

The Minnesota Twins have signed Joe Mauer for a ridonkulous $184 million dollars over 8 seasons. That translates into $23/million per season. Is it me, or is this contract the most ludicrous thing you have ever seen for a catcher?

Mauer will turn 27 three weeks into the season, thus he will be under contract until 35 1/2 years old. It might be me, but I thought most catchers break down somewhere in their 30s. Is it worth it to have a productive Mauer for 5 years, and then 3 years of WAY overpaid underperformance?

I think this contract is an absolute joke, and it really goes against the Twins philosophy. Yes, he is a captain and team leader, but nobody on the team will like him when he is 33 years old, hitting .270, and running like David Ortiz. How many articles are going to be written in 2017 that call-out Minnesota for giving out the dumbest contract in MLB history?

I can only hope that Mauer is transferred from catcher to 1st base at 30 years of age. Thus, his legs won't go through excessive wear and tear, and therefore his bat will remain a premiere commodity. Good for the Twins for finally showing some allegiance, but shame on Minnesota for dishing out a Yankee-esque contract.

Joslyn James Is A Whore

Literally, she is a whore. She is a former porn star. I think you are still considered a whore if you are a porn star. I mean, she did have sex with people for money. She just wasn't paid directly by the guy she was giving sex too. Thus, she isn't a prostitute, but she is a whore.

Tiger Woods thinks she is a whore too, especially after what happened today. Joslyn James apparently had a 3 year long intimate relationship with Tiger, where apparently Tiger texted her some pretty disgusting (awesome!) stuff. She has a website, sextingjoslynjames.com, and she has posted several of his text messages. If you have kids in the room, please ask them to look away. Here are some of the raunchy messages (yes, I feel like our site is getting sleazy because we are posting this garbage):

- OK, I would like to have a threesome with you and another girl you trust.

- I want to treat you rough, throw you around, spank and slap you.

- Have you ever had a golden shower done to you? ... just morbid curiosity.

- You are my fucking whore. Hold you down while I choke you.

I will post more texts when I can get on her site! Too bad ten million people are visiting it, and thus I am getting the spinning wheel of death.

Big Papi Back? I Think Not

Big Papi went yard for the 1st time this Spring (2nd if you count the game against BC). Does this mean Big Papi is turning it around? We hope so, however it has been ugly for Papi this Spring. He certainly looks similart to his start last year. On the Spring, David Ortiz is hitting a robust .143, 3-21 with only 1 extra base hit, the homer this afternoon.

I know it is only Spring Training, but is anybody nervous that Ortiz has started off so pathetically? He says not to worry, but he also told the Sox brass that he wanted more at-bats this Spring. If he is asking for more at-bats, don't you think it is because he doesn't feel comfortable at the dish? And if he doesn't feel comfortable in the batters box, and he can't hit halfway through the Spring, what makes you think that he will be able to turn it around during the regular season?

It is simply a matter of deductive reasoning. From what Papi has said, and from what we have seen, why should we have any faith in him starting the season well?

Mike Lowell also made his debut today, and went 1-2. I think the Red Sox are actually pleased that they still have the former World Series MVP on their roster. Not only will he be able to give Kevin Youkilis and Adrian Beltre the occasional day off, but he will be able to spell Ortiz when he is not playing well. Lowell can't run, but neither can Ortiz. Lowell can hit, and it seems like Papi can't. If I put my deductive reasoning skills to work again, I can assume that Lowell will get a lot more playing time than anybody previously expected.

Celtics Failing Everywhere

The Boston Celtics are so bad now, that ESPN power ranking has them at #15. They are trailing the Heat, Bobcats, Spurs and Bucks in the rankings. How did things get so ugly for the Celts? 17-19 since Christmas, the Celtics look outclassed in every phase of the game against good opponents. Not only are they getting out rebounded, and pushed around on defense, they are getting outworked on the offensive side of the ball. This team should have plenty of offensive weapons with the Big 3, Sheed, Nate Robinson, etc, yet they haven't figured it out. It's this sports blogs opinion that they aren't going to get any better, and a 1st round playoff exit might be inevitable.

Boston will probably finish 4th in the Eastern Conference, that is if they continue to play like they have been. That being said, they are on a collision course with either the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, or Charlotte Bobcats. All three teams present challenges to the Celtics, mainly youth and athleticism. It doesn't look like Boston has the legs to keep up with their opponents. The Big 3 look slow, and Rajon Rondo is the only member of the starting 5 who looks like he has something to prove. The other 4, well they look to be in a world of hurt.

Turning to the bench, a spot on this team that was supposed to be a strength, is turning out to be a huge weakness. Nate Robinson has been inconsistent, Rasheed Wallace has been more or less pathetic, Marquis Daniels is a no-impact player, and Big Baby is off-and-on. He picks up a ton of offensive boards, but then gets stuffed when he tries to put them back in. The 2nd team rarely energizes the club, and we all hold our collective breaths when they enter the game.

This team can't make any adjustments, because they are what they are. They can't get any younger, and they can't get any faster. They have to live and die with the team Danny Ainge constructed, and right now, that team is not good enough.

Dropsy McDropperson Signs With Browns

Oh No. Not Ben Watson. Please don't take our beloved TE away from us. Dropsy has signed a 3 year way overpaid 12 million dollar deal with the Browns today. The video above is my last memory of Ben Watson.

The guy could have been a great talent, but for some reason never put it all together. He has the makeup and skills to be dominant, yet he is not. His greatest play of all time was tracking down Champ Bailey in the playoffs, a moment that demonstrated his incredible athleticim. But, where was that all the time? How come we didn't see more of it? Ben Watson, like Nomar, will go down in my books as a loser.

Red Sox Sign 13 Players

While most of us are waiting in earnest for news about the potential resigning of Josh Beckett, the Red Sox did make some deals yesterday as they announced the signing of 13 players who have between 0-3 years of MLB experience. I imagine that the Sox will do something with Ellsbury, similar to what they did with Pedroia. I am certain they will buy him out of arbitration next year, and give him a longer term lucrative deal. Here's how it shook out according to Gordon Edes:

OF Jacoby Ellsbury -- $496,500 (after making $449,500 in 2009)
P Clay Buchholz –- $443,000
INF Jed Lowrie –- $434,000
P Daniel Bard –- $415,500
INF Tug Hulett –- $403,500
P Ramon A. Ramirez -– $403,000
OF Josh Reddick -– $403,000
(P Michael Bowden -– $402,000
C Dusty Brown -– $402,000
C Aaron Bates -- $401,000
P Dustin Richardson –- $401,000
P Felix Doubront –- $400,000
C Mark Wagner -- $400,000

Patriots Could Lose Jarvis Green and Leigh Bodden

We have already applauded the Patriots for resigning Vince Wilfork and Tully Banta Cain. We all cheered when Stephen Gostkowski and Logan Mankins were tendered. But let's face the facts, right now New England is a worse team than they were last year.

The Patriots resigned some pivotal players, but they only helped NE to a meidocre season last year. What about impact moves? Where are the fresh bodies that are going to propel this team to the top? Already the Pats missed out on Julius Peppers and Anquan Boldin, now it looks like they might lose Jarvis Green to the Broncos and Leigh Bodden to Houston.

Green was certainly a playmaker on D last year, and it looks like he is gone. That would mean that the Pats defense is going to suffer, and thus the current defense is worse than last year's corp. Bodden was a high energy cornerback, that truly helped a young Patriots secondary. Without him on the squad, who is the veteran guy? Brandon Meriweather?

The Patriots need to make a move, and they need to make it soon. They needed to resign Vince and company, and they did. But, Vince and Banta Cain don't make this team a Super Bowl quality team. I think fans are forgetting this. Everybody is so happy that the Pats worked out an extension with the big lineman, but are we forgetting that he was on our team last year? Vince will not come in and save this team. It is not going to happen. The Patriots need to be active, and it needs to be now. They already missed out on most of the prime free agent targets so far. They are also being outworked by New York and Miami so far in the offseason. This is not a good sign, as an already stacked Jets team is getting better.

Only time will tell if the Patriots improve their roster. If they started their season with the collection of players they have now, this Boston sports blog thinks they would look worse than they did in their 33-14 loss to Baltimore in the playoffs.

Huge Comeback Helps Celtics Over NBDL Wizards

The Boston Celtics came back in a big way to take out the lowly Washington Wizards at the Garden Sunday night. The Cs trailed by double digits in the final quarter, yet Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen brought Boston back into the game. Allen hit two huge 3s in the final minutes of the ballgame. The Celts took a 1-point lead on the Wiz on an Allen 3, coming off of an offensive rebound of a free throw. It was Boston's first lead since the 1st quarter of the ballgame. After Washington put in a basket to take the lead back, Allen hit another 3 to put the Celtics up for good.

Allen has been huge for Boston since the All-Star break. It showed tonight, as he had 18 2nd half points. He was the catalyst of Boston's 19-4 run to end the ballgame. Aren't we glad to still have Allen on this yeam? Washington gave this game away, but can you blame them? They suck. No Gilbert Arenas = no real scoring threat. They traded Jamison, and are really left with Blatche and Foye. They held Boston below 90 points, yet they still lost. Only bad teams lose when their opponents score in the 80s. I would hate to be a Wizard fan tonight. C's 86-Wiz83. It was a bitter sweet game for the Celtics. Good news is that Boston came back to win. Bad news is that they almost lost to Washington.

Previous Post Worthless

Well, as soon as we put up the Julius Peppers to NE post, ESPN is reporting that Peppers will sign a 6-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Peppers could make 40 million bucks over the first 3-years of the deal.

Patriots so far: 0-2. Missed out on trading for Antonio Cromartie, now missed out on signing Peppers.

Sox Beat Up On Kids In Collegiate Doubleheader

The Red Sox played their first two games of the Spring today. Albeit, they weren't really games. They shelled Northeastern 15-0 in the 1st contest, and took care of BC 6-1 in game #2. Should the BC game be that close?

Big Papi hit a homer off a kid in game numero uno (below): Casey Kelly also looked solid in the opening contest. Kelly, one of the Sox best pitching prospects, had a 10 pitch 1st inning. He logged two strikeouts during the frame as well. The video (above) shows how it looked. Seems to have pretty decent stuff for a young kid. And he has damn good stuff considering he was playing shortstop in 2009. Kelly will likely start the season in my old stomping ground, AA-Portland.

The box score from game 1 can be seen here. Nothing really outrageous, and not too many household names in this one. There were only a few notable events the two mentioned above, Victor Martinez had a double and Sox catcher Luis Exposito had 4 RBI.

As for game two: Youkilis, Pedroia, Scutaro and Varitek all had base hits. Boof Bonser got the win (although he only pitched 1 scoreless inning) and Michael Bowden & Junichi Tazawa each threw a scoreless inning.

Terry Francona Sits Down With ESPN...Yikes

Should I feel better now that Terry has spoken about his club? Here are some things I noticed about this interview:

1) "We didn't catch the ball real good." Nice English.

2) He didn't have an answer for being strictly a pitching a defensive team. "We are not going to be a pitching, speed, you know we want to hit the ball too and be a well balanced team. We really wanted to improve in that area." Huh? Is that an answer? Did he mean they are not just pitching and defense?

3) They lost J. Bay's bat. Thoughts Terry, "We lost a big bat in Jason Bay...Every decision we make isn't always right." Sounds like a shot at Theo to me. Sox don't have any bats. Terry more or less said it. This team will put up 3 runs per game. Let's hope that is enough in the postseason. This Boston Sports blog doesn't think the Sox will have enough Juice to win it all.

Sports Ultimate Top 10 Lists

I was bored, and typed in top 10 celebrations of all-time into Youtube. I did this because of the Canadian women celebrating like animals. Once at youtube, I was given several great options of top 10 sports moments from different categories. Here are some of the top ten videos I found interesting. I give credit to ESPN, as most of the clips are from their site.

Top ten most unsportsmanline moments. Great to see Izzy Alcantara again:

Top ten premature celebrations (video quality could be better). Also, good to see that Plaxico Burress wasn't an idiot from day 1:

Top 10 hockey celebrations. This one is great, but the music sucks. Either way, it is worth a watch. I had some great laughs. Frigging Sean Avery:

Top 10 football celebrations. I forgot about Morton's worm routine:

Top 10 animals in sporting events. No explanation needed:

Top 10 own goals. I don't see how #1 was worse than #2. The player in #2 got murdered over his own goal. Don't mess with Colombian soccer:
