On 98.5 The Sports Hub this morning, former Red Sox radio broadcaster Jerry Trupiano said Nomar Garciaparra was not a problem during the 2004 season. He went further and said Boston could have won with the SS in a Sox uniform. Trup said that anybody who blames Nomar is incorrect. He stated over and over this morning that Nomar was not a clubhouse cancer. Additionally, he added that all the Sox needed to do to atone for Nomar's errors was to get a new 1st baseman. He stated that the pre Doug Mientkiewicz combination of Big Papi and Kevin Millar was not good for Nomar. According to Trup, 'they didn't have the proper footwork' to deal with Nomar's tailing throws from short. So this one is formally up for debate. I already said that Nomar needed to be traded for the Sox to win in 2004. What do you think?

I think you fell into the Media hype/trashing around Nomar. It was painfully clear that Nomar had big problems with the Boston media. I have no idea if they were valid or not, but the problems were there.
I think it is foolish for us to assume he treated his teammates the same way he treated the media. To this day, no player has come out saying that he was a clubhouse problem. Including Schilling who will say anything about anyone.
However, he never mistreated fans and he played his ass off whenever he stepped on the field. It is sad that the lasting image of him around here is him sitting in the dugout while Jeter breaks his face catching a pop-up. He has dearly paid for that one bad decision.
That being said, he tore his groin and missed the rest of the '04 season about a month after the trade. So while he would have out hit Cabrera, he was ticking injury time-bomb. The Sox would not have won in '04 with him.
