Bruins center Marc Savard is back in Boston one day after a blindside hit by Matt Cooke. Savard said, "[I have] headaches, my head's been pounding all morning. I just want to get back to Boston and get in my bed. I'll see our own doctors today, then I'll get some rest and we'll take it from there."
A lot of people have been debating on the extent of Cooke's punishment. While many are trying to compare it to the Mike Richard's hit on David Boothe, the two are not similar. In that situation Boothe was looking backwards when contact was made. He put himself in a vulnerable position. Last night Marc Savard did nothing wrong. He cross the zone with his head up and was looking at the goaltender as he fired the shot. Cooke clearly came from Savard's right side and made contact with his elbow to Marc's head.
The league really needs to set the standard and show that these plays are not acceptable. A suspension ranging from 4-6 games will be a good starting point in helping to eliminate these types of hits from today's game.
