A Japanese website is saying the Sox are ready to offer Hideki Matsui a multi-year contract. That can't mean the Sox are giving up on Bay, can it? Matsui doesn't have the legs to play left field. Is he going to DH? If so, what happens to Papi?Your two scenarios: 1) Bay leaves. Matsui plays left for the next year, and splits some time at DH with Papi. Jeremy Hermida would fill in for Matsui in left. The Sox make a play for someone like Carl Crawford next offseason, and Matsui would be a 4th outfielder.
2) Bay stays, Matsui hits DH, pushing Papi further down the bench. #2 doesn't make much sense, does it? Two lefty DHs?
Although you can't read the information, this is the site in which this is being reported. Fun just to look at this site. http://www.nikkansports.com/

So your headline states that Matsui is definitely coming to Boston. You obvioulsy have some close contacts with Theo Epstein seeing that the signing hasn't been reported by any other source. Someone should tell ESPN.
